Another new teacher is joining the team at Central Secondary School! Eva Mark will be teaching English in 7th and 10th grade, which is good because she says English was her favorite subject when she was in school. She says she loves grammar and constructing paragraphs as well as interpreting literature and expressing thoughts through writing.
“My interest in education started from a young age,” said Eva. “In fact, my mom often fondly thinks back to the times I would set up my dolls on the couch and ‘teach’ them things when I was four. In middle school, I began babysitting and tutoring, which continued throughout high school, and I found that I enjoyed these jobs a lot. Then in high school, I discovered a passion for reading and writing. Putting these interests together led me to Luther College, where I studied English and Secondary Education. In my last year at college, I completed my student teaching semester and had an absolutely wonderful experience. All of this has led to my career in education!”
In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, painting, reading, watching movies, and hanging out with her cats. She is excited to be back in her home state after going to college in Iowa.
Welcome to the Central community Eva!

We are getting in on the Stiftungsfest fun this weekend by offering tours of Central Secondary School! Check out our updated facilities and have a walk through memory lane.
Tours will start at the HS entrance and will take place on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. led by Tim Schochenmaier and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. led by Rich Larson

Let’s welcome another new face to the Central Public Schools Team! Lauren Scherer will be joining Central Secondary School to teach 8th and 9th grade science as well as 8th grade STEM. Her favorite subject in school was music where she played the french horn in a variety of groups including marching band, chamber winds, ensembles, pep band, and pit orchestra.
“I have always wanted to teach, it is quite literally in my genes, and I can say that as a science teacher,” said Lauren. “I want to guide students to be the best version of themselves by cultivating their curiosity and developing their passions!”
She is excited to get to know the Central community and to reconnect with someone she has worked with before.
“Rich Larson and I worked together for five years in another district and I trust his leadership, which led me to CPS,” said Lauren. “I appreciate that Central is a small but close community and I look forward to taking on a new grade in a content area I love!”
Welcome Lauren!

We are excited to be welcoming some new members to the Central Public Schools team this year and we want to introduce them to you!
First up is Serenity Cox who is the new Administrative Assistant at Central Secondary School. She has been part of the NYA community for more than 10 years and says that her favorite subject in school was reading. She enjoys cooking, baking, and exploring the outdoors in her free time and loves meeting new people.
“I jumped at the chance to get to know more families and community members and build those community connections,” said Serenity. “I started working in education because I wanted to be able to help support students in their educational careers and be a support for families as well.”
Welcome Serenity!

We had a great time celebrating the ribbon cutting for the Raider Field House with the NYA City Council and members of the community! The space is available for community use for free to anyone residing the Central Public Schools district, or those who attend Central Public Schools.
"One of the most exciting aspects of the Raider Field House is that it will be available for community use, free of charge." said Superintendent Tim Schochenmaier. "This space is designed to enhance the health and fitness of our residents, providing a place where people of all ages can come together to exercise, play, and connect. By opening our doors to the community, we are fostering stronger ties and promoting a culture of wellness that will benefit everyone."
