Scholastic Art Competition
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world. Winning students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
So how does a student get his/her work submitted? Ms. Williams asks students that have a really strong/original work they created and tells them about the opportunity and if they want to participate. Ms. Williams helps students who choose to participate with the submission process.
The Scholastic Awards have been around since 1923. The competition starts in a state/region, with the opportunity for some works to move on to the national level. The Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
“I usually try to have 4-5 submissions a year,” Ms. Williams said. This year Central had a total of 4 students submit work/compete:
- Lilly Hedrick- Drawing “Hannibal Lector”
- Greta Feist- Painting “The Floating Lights”
- Emma Flannery- Painting “Wandering Clarity”
- Kaitlynn Nelson- Photograph “Shadow of a Daydream”
