8th Grade Ag Science and Technology What's happening?
Students in Mr. Pehrson's 8th Grade Ag Science and Technology are experiencing a lot of excitement in the classroom learning about food science, welding manufacturing and industrial technology.
In 8th grade Ag science industrial tech students create a CO2 dragster, a sleek form exquisitely crafted by your own hands, blazes down the track toward victory. As you watch in smug satisfaction, you know that your innovative design has given your car the edge. Your vision can be a reality if you follow instructions, take pride in your work, and are creative. You will learn the design process, wood working machines, shop safety, design drawing and painting. Students below created their co2 cars and wood biplane kits. During Covid with hybrid and distant learning Mr. Pehrson took a different approach and reached out to modern design to make a relationship with this company and in return they donated wood airplane kits for students to complete at home and in class.
CO2 Cars:
Students start with this:
Students build and finish with this:
Then students race their cars
BIPLANE:
Students start with this:
Middle of construction:

Welding:
Next the course will take students to the side of working with metals; an emphasis will be placed on safety procedures and the proper use of necessary safety equipment. Students will learn how to weld using the Arc welder laying down a bead on metal this will help students get a feel of what welding is all about.
Practice, Practice Practice......
More Practice......
All that practice pays off with a nice bead.
Plants/Vegetables:
Plants and Vegetables is one of those topics that is just lacking luster nevertheless, learning about vegetables and plants is an exciting way to know where they come from. Students will get an understanding where they come from, how they are classified and the best way to prepare them for your pizza.
Animals/meats:
Students learn the importance of animals and meet the needs in our daily lives. Students will explore the important needs from animals for food, clothing, companionship, recreation and income. This section will also help students understand where the meats come from.
Pizza/ice cream:
Students will learn about nutrition and consumer skills. This can be difficult except when it involves Pizza and ice cream. Students will evaluate frozen pizza and ice cream and its nutritional value, what’s inside their pizza and ice cream, Students then take their knowledge of plants/vegetables, animals/meats and create a homemade 10 in. pizza and ice cream of their flavor; strawberry, vanilla and chocolate of their own from scratch.
