In an impressive display of academic achievement, Central Public Schools has once again seen graduation rates well above the state average. According to the latest data released by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), the district boasts a remarkable four-year graduation rate of 95.1% for the class of 2023, surpassing the state average by 11.8 percentage points.
Superintendent Tim Schochenmaier attributes this success to the concerted efforts of the district's educators and students alike.
"The intentional work being done at Central High School is paying off," Schochenmaier said. "We are witnessing tangible results, including significant progress in narrowing the achievement gap. Our students are demonstrating dedication and taking ownership of their learning journey, while our faculty and staff provide unwavering support, delivering rigorous and meaningful curriculum tailored to the individual needs of each student."
The district’s graduation rate ranks near the highest when compared neighboring districts while outperforming esteemed institutions such as Sibley East High School, GSL High School, Lester Prairie Secondary, Watertown-Mayer High School, and Belle Plaine High School. This impressive statistic highlights the district's commitment to emphasizing the importance of fostering an environment where students feel empowered and connected to their education.
“By cultivating strong relationships with our students we are better equipped to guide them toward their aspirations and equip them with the tools they need to succeed," said Principal Richard Larson. “By really relating to our students, we are able to connect deeper to their achievement goals and abilities to see things through and finish their time in our schools on a high note.”
High school graduation is a pivotal milestone in a student's journey and the district has strong systems in place to provide comprehensive support throughout every stage of a student's academic career.
“We are dedicated to empowering our students to build their futures and achieve their dreams," Schochenmaier said. "As we continue to celebrate the successes of our students, we remain steadfast in our mission to cultivate an environment where every student thrives."
